Why Getting Help Can Feel Overwhelming
Join me as I challenge myself to reach out for help in the moments I need it the most – can I actually do it?
We’ve all been there – feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or just plain stuck. It’s in these moments that seeking help can be a game-changer, but often it’s the last thing we want to do. Reaching out for support can literally change lives for the better, giving us the tools and strength we need to tackle challenges head-on.
One of the biggest hurdles to seeking help is the stigma surrounding it. We worry about being judged or seen as weak. I’ve been guilty of thinking, “I should be able to handle this on my own.” But the truth is, we’re not alone, and it’s okay to ask for help. Fear of judgment, lack of resources, or just not knowing where to turn can hold us back.
These barriers can be especially daunting when we’re already feeling vulnerable. We might think, “What if people find out I’m struggling?” or “What if they can’t help me?” But the reality is, there are people who care and want to support us. We just have to be brave enough to reach out.
Sometimes, we don’t seek help because we’re not sure where to look. We might not know about local resources or feel like we can’t afford professional help. But there are so many options available, from hotlines to online support groups.
Where To Start?
Reaching out to friends or family can be a great first step. They might not have all the answers, but they can offer a listening ear and help us feel less alone.
If you can’t speak to your Parent Support Community, or prefer someone more specalised?
Then specialist organisations exist. The Samaritans is a fantastic organisation that can guide you to the best support.
